Bump Stop Force

This force element applies a force vector acting from the reaction body onto the action body. The force amplitude is computed such, that the behaviour mimics a bump stop element. The force direction vector moves with the action body, so the body supplied by defining the Action Mate Connector and is given initially by the mate connector of Action Mate Connector. In case of a positive gap between Action Mate Connector and Reaction Mate Connector, the force is zero. When the Reaction Mate Connector penetrates the plane (origin and direction of force) spanned by the Action Mate Connector, it behaves like a linear spring damper.

Bump Stop Force

Action Mate Connector

Specify a mate connector to define the body and location where the action force is applied.

Reaction Mate Connector

Specify a mate connector to define the body and location where the reaction force is applied.

Direction

Defines the direction of the force. Refers to the axes (X=red, Y=green, Z=blue) of the mate connector given by Action Mate Connector.

Stiffness

The stiffness of the linear spring (in case of penetration). Provide a value in the units you selected for Force per Length.

Damping Coefficient

The damping coefficient of the linear damper (in case of penetration). Provide a value in the units you selected for Force per Length. The time unit is fixed to seconds.

tip

Test this element with small values for stiffness and zero damping!

After a successful test, you can then increase the value for the stiffness and check whether the energy is maintained. If necessary you may reduce the Time Step.
